I saw Crooked Letter play in Sydney and knew that I needed to make music with him. He'd been exploring music from his parents homeland and sent me through a beat that sampled Nigerian funk. It really resonated with me and my strong connection to Scotland where my dad is from. We wanted to highlight the affinity we feel towards places where we didn't grow up. We bonded over the idea that looking back at our roots gave us a sense of affirmation and appreciation for what makes us who we are.
lyrics
Digging my roots I'll wake it up
Jolting my home I live on top of the trees
Now that I'm older I'll get to know ya
Second hand stories from a motherland
I'll hold on to comics with a Dundee hue
Diaspora soaked in accents 'aspora my soul keeps flashing
Granny said be halfway back if you were any further, further
CHORUS
Pole to pole I'll ae fond kiss it better
Kiss it better
Now that I'm older
Digging my roots up now that I'm older
Scouting the hills out now that I'm closer
Braving the heart out
Now namesake I sign her
Now that I'm older I'll get to know ya
Get to know ya, get to know ya
Now that I'm older I'll get to know ya

Just a beautiful jazzy rap album with buttery smooth flows versed with huge talent. It's not only lovely to the ears, but the lyrics are profound and empowering about the struggles that she faces. zhangtastic
